The Christmas Truce

December 2016

In late November our teacher Mr O’ Leary started discussing a Christmas play with us.

We decided to base the play on the Christmas Truce during World War 1, 1914 and brainstormed some ideas.

However, it was not easy to do and we are going go tell you how we produced the Christmas Truce play.

We divided in groups to do various jobs such as creating the backdrop, making and getting props, finding costumes and writing the script.

One group got lots of cardboard and painted some to look like a scene from the war. That was going to be our backdrop. They also designed and made two trenches which would go on either side of the stage.

Another group created some props to go with the show, such as guns, posters, hats and many others.

Siofra, James, Evan and Jack wrote the script, and when they were finished we started the rehearsals. We also learned some songs like the ‘Little Drummer Boy’, ‘Stille Nacht’ and a few more.

Finally, we searched at home and found some costumes that suited the show. Eventually we were ready.

The show lasted for about 10 minutes. We put a huge effort into it and the children and their parents really enjoyed it.

We really enjoyed preparing for and performing ‘The Christmas Truce’. If you missed it, you can watch it below.

I hope you enjoyed reading this piece.
