Dear Parents,
I hope you and your children are keeping well and managing to stay safe in these challenging times. Thank you for all the work you have been doing with your child so far.
The work outlined below is for children to undertake on school days, March 30th to April 3rd.
We appreciate that circumstances are different for all of us – work commitments, access to wi-fi, number of siblings trying to access online material etc. and we do not want to add any further pressure. However, we are also aware that some further structure may be useful. Therefore, please find below a suggested timeframe that could be followed each day at a time that is suitable for you and your child. It can also be done over a week/few days together as best suits.
The curriculum recommends spending roughly 2 hours per day in total on English, Gaeilge and Maths (2 hours for three subjects combined, not individually). This includes all informal writing, reading and oral language activities that the child may undertake. This includes any informal Irish that the children may be exposed to for example watching a cartoon on TG4 and includes any informal maths learning for example, baking, playing shop, telling the time, etc. The children have been assigned written work to do in their ‘Two Little Frogs’, ‘Treasury 1’ and ‘My Spelling Workbook’ but it might also be nice for them to keep a diary or a record of their news during this time as it is going to be a big part of the world’s history and it will be great for them to be able to share their experience of it with future generations.
We appreciate that is it a difficult and stressful time for many families. We realise that every family won’t be able to complete school work every day. Therefore, this can be used as a guideline if desired.
Please show your child the following note:
Hello Boys and Girls,
I hope you are all doing well and trying your best at home. I miss you all so much and I am really looking forward to seeing you again sometime soon. You might remember that we were chatting about Lent a couple of weeks ago. You were telling me about the different things that you were giving up or taking up for Lent. Some of you mentioned giving up sweets and chocolate but none of us knew that we would have to give up so much more – going to school, seeing our friends and family, going swimming etc. I know this is not easy but remember it is only temporary (it won’t last forever) and we will be able to return to school and see everyone again. One thing I’d like you all to do at home (as well as some schoolwork) is to try extra hard to help your parents. Ask Mam or Dad how you can help them each day and remember how important kind hands and kind words are. I trust that each of you will do your very best with this.
Thank you,
Mrs O’Brien
