Here are some of the things we got up to during the first term!
Role Plays
In September and October, we worked on creating role plays, setting up different scenarios and reacting to these in character. Below is just one example where our waiters are attempting to keep unhappy customers happy. Does it look like they are succeeding?!
Under 11 Football & Hurling Finals
We had tremendous success this year with our G.A.A. teams and almost every child in our class was involved with at least one team. Our Under 11 camogie team did brilliantly to reach the semi-finals of their competition before being beaten by the eventual winners.
Our girls football team went one better and reached the final in Hawkfield. In what the Leinster Leader described as the “Match of the Week”, they drew with Two Mile House and the game went into extra time. They were still level with seconds to go after 10 minutes of extra time but unfortunately, Two Mile House kicked the last score to win the match. Our girls played amazingly though and the future is bright.
Our boys football and hurling teams had great success, winning both competitions. The footballers defeated Castledermot and the hurlers beat Cappagh two day later. It was wonderful week for the school. Below is a picture of the victorious football team that I was involved with.
Tag Rugby
During the term, we got the chance to sample tag rugby with coaches from Barnhall. The children had great fun, both indoors and outdoors and got to develop their skills in another code.
Making Puppets
Finally in art, we created puppets in order to complete a later drama lesson. The children had to design the puppets from scratch using various fabrics including some old clothes, felt etc. The results were really nice.
