October 2019
On the 15th October Maths Week began in St Anne’s. Sixth Class were tasked with creating fun maths games for other classes to play and enjoy. All the classes were split into three groups. Group 1 was for Junior and Senior infants, Group 2 was for 1st and 2nd class and Group 3 was for 3rd 4th 5th and 6th class. Everyone in the class had to choose which they wanted to make games for. There was 5 boys and 5 girls in every group.
Each group of 10 split into groups of 5 so there would be 2 mini groups. Group 1 had 4 classes to go to as did group 2 but group 3 had 5 classes to go to. So each mini group would go to 2 classes for 30 mins.
Each day, each group had to make up a new activity for their classes. Each group had one day to use the chromebooks and they had to make up 2 more activities for the other 2 days.
The activities were a great success and each class enjoyed them loads. The teachers also thought they were a great success.
After 3 days of going around to the other classes to complete activities, on Friday the other classes came to the hall to play. In groups of 2 or 3, each person had to set up a stall with fun maths games to play.
There were lots of games around the hall and each person could go and play whatever game they wanted. Each class would come in at a different time. The whole school had so much fun, even the teachers!
Overall Maths Week was a great success. It was great fun and we had a great time creating the activities for the other classes and they enjoyed playing the games.
