October 2016
This year, we decided to set up a Student Council for the first time. It was set up to give students a say in school issues.
To find people to be on the Student Council, we had an election in October.
There was to be two councillors from each class from 2nd to 5th and 7 councillors from 6th class, making 15 altogether. Each child who wanted to be elected had to get two supporters to nominate and second him or her. 47 people ran for election, which showed great pride for the school.
In sixth class there were 12 candidates and we decided to have a debate to give everyone a chance to say what they wanted. All the other children listened and then asked questions to the candidates. It was great fun.
The election took place on Thursday 27th October. The candidates made great posters.
We were in charge of the polling station where voting took place.
Afterwards the votes were counted and the following people were elected.
Sixth Class:
James Goulding, Adam Gray, Aoife Moore, Joshua O’Reilly, Sarah Reynolds, Leah Tyndall, Luke Wiseman
Fifth Class:
Patrick O’Sullivan, Aoibheann Power
Fourth Class:
Charlotte Byrne, Cian Cullen
Third Class:
Tessa Hoque, Jamie Maughan
Second Class:
Alexandra Butler, Keelan Tyndall
The council meets regularly and discusses school issues.
