November 2018
Tomi Riechental came to visit our school on the 23rd of November 2018. Tomi told us about his life. He lived in Merašice in Slovakia with his family; his mother Judith, his father Arnold and his brother Miki.
Tomi had a very happy and fun life until he was six and that was when World War 2 started.
Tomi’s father escaped from a train on the way to a concentration camp in Bergen Belsen because he was Jewish. Two years later Tomi, his mother and his brother were on the run. In 1944 Tomi, his mother and his brother were taken to a concentration camp in Bergen Belsen. Tomi’s childhood was ruined. All he did was work from dawn to dusk. He was at the concentration camp for just under a year. Tomi talked to us all about his childhood in World War 2. Everyone was very interested in Tomi’s story.
We were all so grateful that Tomi could come to our school and share his experience during World War 2.
