St Anne’s Ardclough

NEWSLETTER January 2018

Christmas- celebrations and sad news:

We are well settled back after Christmas and it was great to hear of all the celebrations that children had over the festive season.

We were also deeply saddened to hear of the passing of a lovely member of the school community, Anca Muresan. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and we continue to support them in whatever way we can here in St Anne’s.

We were privileged to be part of the service for Mrs Muresan – the true meaning of community spirit came to the fore at that time. I am proud of the children’s contribution and how they have supported Raul and Daria over the past weeks. Thanks to you all!

Initiatives

Well done to the children in 5th class and 2nd who are organising a number of initiatives across the school. These include

  • Artist of the Fortnight
  • Book reading with infant classes
  • Story writing competitions
  • Publishing stories and books

We also have a Super Singer Award being organised-children in 2nd and 3rd class are composing and/or performing pieces. It’s great to see such enthusiasm and creativity.

A Talent competition is being run by 5th class also- more on this in the next newsletter.

Well done to all involved- Ireland’s Got Talent here we come!

A few reminders

  • Absent: WE request that you send a note to the class teacher if your child is absent. As you know we are obliged to send returns on attendance to TUSLA on a regular basis (particularly on children who are absent for 20+days) and so we need to have information on the nature of absence.
  • Uniform: We expect a high standard when it comes to uniforms and tracksuits and remind you that full uniform is required. This includes having a full tracksuit on PE days and refers to children from junior infants to 6th class
  • Lunch: We are aware that children were often putting lunch into bins here and that parents were unaware of this. So we are asking children to take uneaten lunch home
  • Tables: On the Curriculum front we remind you that tables are still a core part of learning in Maths and we encourage parents to support the children in learning these- knowing them will support the children’s learning going forward

Safer Internet Day

Tomorrow is Safer Internet Day. We will be undertaking a number of activities in school and a school wide poster competition is being held. It might be a good time to link in with children on the use of internet and responsible use of digital media

We have some readings on the website and advise having a look at https://www.webwise.ie for information

Catholic Schools Week & Grandparents Day

We were delighted to see so many grandparents last week for our Grandparents Day. Many of you took part in class activities, from making houses and St Brigid’s crosses to praying together and telling of what it was like to attend school ‘some years ago’.

Thanks to all who attended the service and blessing in the hall. Special thanks for Father Matt for leading the service and

 Parent Teacher Meetings Infant Classes

Meetings are arranged for junior infant and senior infant classes this week. We remind you that is an opportunity to share insights on your child’s learning- please feel free to make an appointment at any time during the year if you have any queries or concerns

Trips:

Children from 2nd and 3rd classes will travel to the NCH tomorrow for Music in the Classroom. It is wonderful to hear the preparations going on- I’m sure they will have a great experience and will participate well tomorrow.

Activities:

Thanks to the support of parents and the PSG we now have the hall lined for a number of sports and have new basketball nets installed. We will be starting basketball teams for senior classes shortly and all classes can use the facilities for games during pe and lunchtime practices.

Ms Owens is taking children for athletics training on Friday mornings – parents will be notified of details of any events/competitions as soon as we have dates

Congratulations to our Credit Union Quiz team who represented us so well last week in Naas. I am proud of the attention they gave to preparations and how well they did on the night. Thanks to Mr O Leary for organising this!
