5th Class Work 30th March to 3rd April

Hi everyone,

Hope you are all keeping well. Please see below a plan of work for next week 30th March to 3rd April. Again there is no pressure with this work, it is totally up to you how much of it your child can get through.  I appreciate that circumstances are different for all of us – work commitments, access to Wi-Fi, number of siblings trying to access online material etc. and I do not want to add any further pressure.

The work has been broken up into daily segments. There is core work (Maths/Irish/English) assigned for every day and then additional work in SESE and creative arts.

The children will now have full access to all of the Abair Liom Irish resources, including; songs, poems and interactive stories. Folens are currently allowing parents to access their online resources. To sign up for this, a parent needs to go to www.folensonline.ie, click register, Teacher and then fill in the details. Under “Roll Number” use the code Prim20 and they should set you up

Again well done to everyone on Khan academy, its great to see everyone getting on really well and learning so much maths in these weeks off from school. Keep working away on it and trying your best.
Next week as you have probably heard we will be introducing SEESAW across the school. Luckily for us we have been using this app already throughout the year for our learning. So come next Wedensday when we start to work on SEESAW,  you already know the key skills of uploading, recording, and many of the other features. Its such a brilliant resource and you will really enjoy working on it at home. You can show your parents how it works!

Keep an eye on the page during the week as it will be updating. Answers to Maths & Gaeilge work will also be uploaded to the class page during the week.

Over the next few weeks while we all have to social distance from our friends and family dont forget to call/facetime your friends & family for a chat to see how they are getting on. They will love to hear from you. Also try to stay as active as you can. Enjoy your Easter Holidays and I hope to see you back in school very soon.

Make sure to eat lots of Easter eggs too on Easter Sunday! I know I will 🙂

We are going to continue on with our Gaeilge cómhrá, and our theme for April is An Aimsir.
You can start practising 1-4.

  1. An bhfaca tú réamháisnéis na haimsire ar an teilifís inné?
    Chonaic/Ní bhfaca mé réamháisnéis na haimsire ar an teilifís inné
  2. Cén saghas aimsire atá ann inniu?
    Mar shampla – Tá an aimsir go deas inniu. Tá an ghrian sa spéir. Ta sé tirim agus beagáinín té. Níl se fuar agus buíochas le dia (thanks be to God) níl sé ag cur báistí. 
  3. Inniu, an lá fuar é nó an lá te é?
    Inniu, Is lá fuar/té é.
  4. Cá ndeachaigh(where did you go) tú ar do laethanta saoire an samhradh seo caite?
    Chuaigh mé go dtí An Fhrainc………An Sasana etc. 
  5. An raibh an aimsir go maith?
    You can come up with your own answers to this one !
    Bhí an aimsir go maith mar…. bhí an ghrian ag scoilteach na gcloch (splitting the rocks) agus bhí sé tirim
    Ní raibh an aimsir go maith mar….. bhí sé ag cur báistí go trom(heavy) agus bhí sé an-fhuar.
  6. Inis dom faoin aimsir a bhíonn ann de ghnáth san fhómhar(autumn).

    Is aoibhinn liom an samhradh mar de ghnáth bíonn an aimsir go híontach. Bíonn an ghrian ag taitneamh agus bíonn sé té. Dé ghnáth i rith an samhradh caitheann mé t-léine agus bríste gairid. 
  8. Inis dom faoin aimsir a bhíonn ann de ghnáth sa gheimhreadh(Winter).
    Bíonn an aimsir sa gheimhreadh uafásach. De ghnáth bíonn se an-fhuar agus ag stealladh báistí. Go minic(often) bíonn leac oighir ar an mbothar freisin. Is fuath liom an geimhreadh.
  9. Inis dom faoin aimsir a bhíonn ann de ghnáth san earrach(Spring).
    De ghnáth bíonn an aimsir difriúil san earrach. Uaireanta bíonn an aimsir fuar agus fliuch. Ar an lámh eile uaireannta bíonn an aimsir tirim agus go deas. Athraíonn(changes) sé gach la.
  10. Ar lá saoire, céard a dhéanann tú nuair a bhíonn sé ag cur báistí?
    Nuair a bhíonn an aimsir fliuch caithfidh muid(we have to) fanacht sa teach….. Léann mé mo leabhar, imrím cluichí ríomhaire, scríobhaim scéal i mo chóipleabhar etc.
  11. Sa samhradh, cá dtéann an-chuid daoine nuair a bhíonn an ghrian ag taitneamh?
    De ghnáth sa samhradh, téann an chuid daoine go dtí an trá.

  1. When asked to find ¾ of ‘a number’ – Divide by the bottom(÷4) and multiply by the top(x3).

*To get the sale price of a product you need to find out the percentage reduction (e.g 30%=30 /100 =3/10) and subtract it from the original price.

An Adidas Jacket cost €55 euro. In the sales it was reduced by 20%, what is the sale price of the product?

Reduction: 20% – (Remeber when calculating a percentage always change it into a fraction in its lowest terms. See below.)

20% = 20/100 = 2/10 = 1/5  – Divide €55 by 5 & mulitply by 1 =     €55÷5= 11     €11x1 = €11 reduction

Reading:

Read any book/comic/magazine/internet article etc. that is of interest to your child, with your support if necessary, and then do the following;

  1. The child retells the story in their own words.
  2. You ask “who/what/where/when/why do you think/what if/how do you know” questions in relation to what was read.
  3. The child writes a short paragraph about what they have read.
  4. For the junior classes – continuous practice of sight words is important.

Spelling:

  1. It is important to keep up with the *SOS (Say the word, Say the letters as you write them, Say the word again) and Look Say Cover Write Check approaches in relation to class spellings work

Writing:

Keep a diary of daily events, you can illustrate this if you wish.

  1. Continuous practice of sums using pencil and paper as appropriate for your child’s class level i.e. addition, subtraction, multiplication and division (please include subtraction and addition with renaming, long multiplication and long division as appropriate.)

Maths practice as above must be practiced daily so that progress made to date will be maintained.
