Over the past few months our class have been working on a project called Interactive European Pathways. This project was part of eTwinning, a community of schools all over Europe that our school joined this year. Our teacher, Mr. O’Leary went to Brussels for a conference about eTwinning.
After this, a teacher from the Czech Republic emailed Mr. O’Leary to invite our school to join his Interactive European Pathways project. He invited one school from 31 countries all over Europe.
To complete the project, we had to create a video to tell the other countries about Ireland and also design this poster with information about the country. The poster would be adapted by the Czech group so that when viewed through a smartphone or tablet, the video would start playing.
Before we began our video, we had to make scripts and brainstormed ideas. Our class shared ideas and we split up into different groups. The groups worked on:
- Ardclough
- Geography
- History
- Languages
- Culture
We then began to write scripts to get ready for filming. When we felt we were prepared to begin filming our video, we gathered all of our information and the filming equipment, which included an iPad and a green screen.
We started learning our lines while we were waiting to be filmed. We each took turns standing in front of the green screen and saying our lines. It didn’t always go perfectly!
While people were recording, we also had to get suitable images and videos to go behind the speakers. Some were better than others!
When we had found enough suitable pictures and videos, Mr. O’Leary put both together to get the final video. He then added suitable Irish music.

Some people did their parts at locations such as the school and Oughterard cemetery.
Finally the completed video and poster were sent to the teacher in the Czech Republic who then sent them on to all the other schools in the group. We have displayed all of the other countries posters outside our classroom and the videos can be seen when using a smartphone or tablet. They can also be seen on Youtube.
The posters are also on display in all of the other schools in the group, for example in:
We had great fun making this video and you can view it on Youtube below. You can also view the other countries on Youtube.
