3rd Class Work Monday 30th March- Friday 3rd April

Dear parents,

I hope you and your family are keeping well.

Please see below a plan of work for the children to engage with from Monday 30th March to Friday 3rd April. This is a suggested guideline for Irish, English and Maths that could be followed each day, at a time that is suitable for you, and your child. I appreciate that circumstances are different for all of us – work commitments, access to Wi-Fi, number of siblings trying to access online material etc. and I do not want to add any further pressure. However, I’m also aware that some further structure may be useful. Please use your own judgement to decide how much work to do and the best approaches that suit your child.   Answers to English and Maths work will be uploaded to the class news page next week.

Best wishes to yourselves and to the children,

Kind regards,

Ms. Deegan

Children should continue with their Google Coding course this week.

The rest of the children’s cursive handwriting book All Write Now is revision of letter formations we have already covered this year. Therefore, I would encourage children to work away at that book at their own pace.

The children will now have full access to all of the Abair Liom Irish resources, including; songs, poems and interactive stories. Folens are currently allowing parents to access their online resources. To sign up for this, a parent needs to go to www.folensonline.ie, click register, Teacher and then fill in the details. Under “Roll Number” use the code Prim20 and they should set you up. Once registered, you’ll have access not only to Abair Liom but also to Reading Zone and many other useful resources.

RTÉ has confirmed that it will broadcast over an hour of “school on TV” to support primary school children and their parents at home.It is part of a cross-platform teaching initiative that has been developed by RTÉ at short notice with the support of the Department of Education. The one-hour programme will begin on Monday. It will run from 11-12 Monday to Friday on RTÉ 2, with a shorter “catch-up” segment later in the afternoon. It will be aimed particularly at children in 1st to 6th class.

The programme will also be available on the RTÉ Player and supporting worksheets and other material will be on RTE.ie/learn.

RTÉ said the programme would be educational, but also fun and engaging.

English:

Reading:

Read any book/comic/magazine/internet article etc. that is of interest to your child, with your support if necessary, and then do the following;

  1. The child retells the story in their own words.
  2. You ask “who/what/where/when/why do you think/what if/how do you know” questions in relation to what was read.
  3. The child writes a short paragraph about what they have read.
  4. For the junior classes – continuous practice of sight words is important.

Spelling:

  1. It is important to keep up with the *SOS (Say the word, Say the letters as you write them, Say the word again) and Look Say Cover Write Check approaches in relation to class spellings work

Writing:

Keep a diary of daily events, you can illustrate this if you wish.

Useful sites:

Maths:

  1. Continuous practice of sums using pencil and paper as appropriate for your child’s class level i.e. addition, subtraction, multiplication and division (please include subtraction and addition with renaming, long multiplication and long division as appropriate.)
  2. Tables Practice: Oral drills on all tables covered to date, the Hit the Button game accessed on topmarks.co.uk is extremely helpful.

Maths practice as above must be practised daily so that progress made to date will be maintained.
