Hallowe’en at St Anne’s:

Children are invited to dress up this Friday, October 25th. As you know the PSG is organising a sponsored walk for the day and we will be leaving the school at approximately 9.30am walking along the canal. Any cards can be brought into the school on Friday.

We look forward to an exciting event!

Homework

A reminder to all parents to please check each item of homework and sign your child’s journal each night. We value the support of parents on homework and please let the class teacher know if your child has any issue with homework completion

Sports:

This month has seen a number of great events involving St Anne’s students.

Congratulations to our hurling team who reached the final of the Cumann na mBunscoil championship last week. Despite the bad weather, all the team gave it their all and were a credit to the school. Well done to the team and to Mr Roughan on a great achievement.

Well done also to our football team and to the girls football teams on reaching the semi-finals too and to the 5th and 6th classes who took part in the Barnhall rugby blitz last week.

GAA coaching and rugby coaching continue over the coming months with swimming and cycling coming to a conclusion for the current groups involved.

Maths Week:

Last week was national maths week and St Anne’s students took part in many interesting events over the course of the week. Sixth class students led the way on this, creating maths activities and games for all the other classes and facilitating these in classes during the week.

The finale of the week was a day of maths activities in the hall on Friday. It is great to see ‘fun maths’ going on and we are all grateful to Mr O Leary and 6th class students who made this possible. Have a look at the school website for photos!

PSG

The AGM for the PSG will take place on Monday November 25th next. The current committee continues to organise many events for the children in our school and to raise funds for the school. We are very grateful to you, as parents, and to the committee for all that they do.

A reminder that the Family Fun Day will take place on December 1st in the K Club and calendars and Christmas cards will be on their way very soon.

Thanks to members of the PSG who are working on improving the garden areas around the school. Keep an eye out for changes here over the coming months!

Board of Management

As you know from recent communications, a new Board of Management will be in place from December 1st next

At a meeting on Monday night, Serena Conheady was elected as the parent nominee (mother)  and Donal Mac Giollaphadraig as the nominee (father).

I wish to express my thanks to the outgoing Board for their huge contribution to the management of the school and the various initiatives that were set up and supported

Junior Achievement

The children in 4th class continue their work with Junior Achievement facilitators, Siobhán and Rita. Wonderful ideas are coming to the fore from the classes and we look forward to the Dragon’s Den event to be held on November 26th (more to follow on this).

As the mid-term approaches may I express my thanks to all students and parents for kind wishes over the past weeks. The community spirit of St Anne’s certainly continues to blossom!

May I wish you all a pleasant and relaxing mid-term and I look forward to the rest of term and exciting events to come

M Manley
