Paired Reading

Many thanks to all the parent volunteers who supported us in the Paired Reading programme for Senior Infants. You set a great example to children and encourage in them a love of reading independently. Thank you!

Sports

It is a very busy term for sport.

Huge congratulations to our football team who beat Straffan school in the Cumann na mBunscoil final last week. They played extremely well and were a credit to their trainer, Mr O Leary, class teachers and to you as parents. It was a great occasion and thanks to all who attended the medal ceremony in school and to the members of the PSG who arranged treats for the players on their return to school. Here’s to some great days in the future for this team

Well done to all students who have played on school teams throughout the year too!

The coaching with our GAA coach, Leon, continues for a number of classes this term and raining with Barnhall Rugby Club coaches started last week. Athletics events are ongoing too.

Active Schools Week– despite the poor weather we managed to run a number of events for the week. The highlight of these was the Run for Fun Initiative, organised through the GAA 5 * initiative. More on this to follow

Some photos are on the website for you to view

Projects

5th class are currently working with a script writer creating work on local stories and cultures. We look forward to viewing the final products!

Well done to 5th and 6th classes who completed a series of dance workshops recently with Niamh Fox from Definition Dance. It was great to see and hear the workshops and the composition of children’s own dance sequences was particularly exciting

Transition Programme

Thanks to Mrs Knightly and Ms Mc Loughlin who are working with students in 6th class on a  Transition programme. This aims to support the students in transitioning to second level through various initiatives. Among these is the visit of former St Anne’s students who started second level earlier this year. Many thanks to all who attended. Other events will take place over the coming weeks including a mock timetable for second level and setting up of lockers for the students.

Sacraments:

Congratulations to everyone in 6th class who received the sacrament of Confirmation on May 4th last. We were delighted that Bishop Nulty confirmed the children ; thanks also to Fr Matt and Fr O Byrne too for their support on the day and throughout the year.

It makes me proud to see how our sixth class have blossomed into young adults and I know you will shine as you move to second level

We also celebrated the Sacrament of Communion this month. Our wonderful 2nd class received First Communion on Saturday last. They made Mr Roughan proud! We wish Mr Roughan a speedy recovery and hope he will be back with us soon. Well done to you all.

Sincerest thanks to the PSG and the group of parents who arranged the parties for both Confirmation and Communion at the school. It is a wonderful tradition and it is so lovely to meet with families, parents and grandparents at this event, all of whom are appreciative of the work that goes into the celebrations

ICT Robotics

Representatives of 4th class are with Mr O Leary today at a showcase in Athlone displaying their lego projects. I know they will make us proud- more to follow on this in our next newsletter

  • Bank Holiday: School is closed Friday May 31st and Tuesday June 4th
  • School tours– Dates have been arranged for all classes and teachers will be in touch with parents on these
  • Sports Day is scheduled for Friday June 14th, weather permitting- more to follow on this
  • New Junior Infants- parents meeting (evening) June 11th with new students visiting on the 12th
  • Other events: We hope to celebrate the opening of our Sensory Garden in June date tbc and 6th class graduation will be on the final week, again date tbc.

Reminders:

  • Uniform- A reminder to all re the wearing of the full school uniform to the end of the year. As mentioned previously, on very hot days, children may wear navy or grey shorts with their uniform or wear these shorts with tracksuits on PE days. Children doing sports during the day should bring gear with them. I appreciate that this may be somewhat cumbersome but we are anxious to maintain the well presented standard of dress in St Anne’s and to encourage all to show respect for themselves in how they present themselves. I really appreciate parents co-operation with this
  • Chewing gum is not allowed in school
  • Punctuality- a reminder that children should be in school before 9.10am. Even a few minutes late on a regular basis gives children a bad habit and one that we want to discourage.
