NOVEMBER 2016 NEWSLETTER

Many activities and initiatives have taken place in St Anne’s over the past month. Here is a flavour of what has been happening……..

Hallowe’en Dress-up Day
The dress-up day was a great success, though scary at times!!
Well done to all the children who put so much effort into making the costumes……and to the teachers too! Have a look at the photos in the gallery section of the website

Educational Trips
Junior Infant and Senior Infant children travelled to the Ark Cultural Centre in Dublin this month for a performance of Conor: At the Centre of the Universe. It was a great performance and all had the opportunity to participate in creating ‘space’ at the end of the show. Well done to all involved.
First classes will be attending A Christmas Carol at the Ark next week and we hope the all enjoy the show.

Student Council
We are delighted to announce that the first St Anne’s Student Council is now in place in our school. Children from 2nd to 6th class voted for their peers and each class has at least one boy and one girl representing them. The voting was run on a PR system so much learning was done by all.
Congratulations to all who ran as candidates in the election- some really great speeches were made and many progressive ideas were put forward.
We are now in the process of electing officers on the council. Many thanks to all teachers involved and especially to Mr O Leary for co-ordinating all.
I look forward to working with the Student Council in the months ahead

Lunchtime Clubs
Many thanks to the 6th class students who have set up lunch time clubs for students in the school. The clubs vary from chess to ukulele, from yearbook to working on i-pads. It is wonderful to see children learning from each other and having fun. Keep up the good work everyone!

Dignity at Work
In St Anne’s we have developed a dignity at work policy, which is now available on our website. In the policy it states that
‘St Anne’s School is committed to a positive work environment where work is done in an atmosphere of respect, collaboration, collegiality openness and equality’
We look forward to working with all members of the school community in a spirit of respect.

Christmas Variety Show
All classes are busy preparing for the St Anne’s Christmas Variety Shows. These will take place in the school hall on Wednesday December 21st. There will be two sections, one show for junior (infants to 1st class) and another for the senior classes (2nd-6th). We welcome all parents to join us for these events (times to be confirmed)

Debating Teams
Well done to our 6th class debating team who competed so well in the Kildare Education Centre Debating Competition recently. We wish you well in the next competition this week.

Visiting Artist
We are delighted to welcome Beth, a willow artist, to St Anne’s. Beth is working with 2nd, 4th and 5th classes. Watch out for their weaving work which will be on display in the school soon!
Also welcome to Meave Boylan who worked with junior
