Painting Like Michelangelo

by Daisy, Danny, John and Amy

December 2019

In December, we learned about the famous Italian renaissance artist and sculptor, Michelangelo. One of his most famous works was the ceiling on the Sistine Chapel. It took him three years to paint and he had to do it on his back.

Mr. O’Leary let us try painting on our backs to see what it was like. We all went under our desks and we helped each other to tape paper onto our baskets. Once the paper was securely attached, we got all the colours we needed to paint our pictures. Our theme to paint was a scene from the Old Testament.

When we had the paint we went under our desks and proceeded our task. We found out that this art was fun but very difficult. We all discussed how hard it must have been for Michelangelo.

Once we finished our art we went home and let them dry for the weekend. When we came back on Monday, we separated the paper from the basket and gathered them up.

We were all very happy with what we had painted and learned a lot about Michelangelo. Here are some of our finished pieces.
