3rd Class Work Wednesday 18th March- Friday 27th March

I hope that you and your families are all keeping well.

As previously indicated the work outlined below is for children to undertake on school days March 18th to 27th. 

We appreciate that circumstances are different for all of us – work commitments, access to Wi-Fi, number of siblings trying to access online material etc. and we do not want to add any further pressure. However, we are also aware that some further structure may be useful. Therefore, please find below a suggested time frame that could be followed each day, at a time that is suitable for you, and your childThe work could also be done over a week/ few days together, as best suits.  

The Curriculum recommends spending roughly 2 hours per day in total on English, Gaeilge and Maths (2 hours for the three subjects combined, not individually). This includes all informal writing, reading and oral language activities that the child may undertake. It also includes any informal Irish that the children may be exposed to, for example watching a programme on TG4 or playing a Gaeilge game, and includes any informal Maths learning for example, baking, shopping, telling the time, etc. We will include ICT and some creative resources for these subjects where possible. 

If possible, encourage PE/outdoor activities daily and some research of the SESE topics, (available on our Class News page). 

We appreciate that is it a difficult and stressful time for many families. We realise that every family won’t be able to achieve it every day. Therefore, this can be used as a guideline if desired.

Dear parents,

Please find below some written work for the children to complete between Wednesday the 18th of March and Friday the 27th. It would also be helpful for the children to revise their multiplication/division tables and spellings from previous weeks. Practising active maths such as time telling and money would be helpful too. Children should continue with their ‘Google Coding CS First’ course at their own pace.

English:

Story writing: Write your own narrative using the Book Creator app. Read the first book in Ms Deegan’s class library to find out how to use the app. Your finished book will then be shared in the class library for other children in the class and the teacher to read.

  2. They will need a Google account, Office 365  (parent email address)
  3. Once they’ve signed in, they will be prompted to enter our 3rd class library code:  6PKBSCZ
  1. Type it in, click GO and then they’ll be added to our library.

For children receiving extra support from Ms Dalton, Mrs Kelly, Mrs O’Connor and Ms Malone, you may find the following information useful.

English:

Reading:

Read any book/comic/magazine/internet article etc. that is of interest to your child, with your support if necessary, and then do the following;

  1. The child retells the story in their own words.
  2. You ask who/what/where/when/why/what if questions in relation to what was read.
  3. The child writes a short paragraph about what they have read.
  4. For the junior classes-continuous practice of sight words is important.

 

Spelling:

  1. It is important to keep up with the *SOS (Say the word, Say the letters as you write them, Say the word again) and Look Say Cover Write Check approaches in relation to class spellings work i.e.

Writing:

Keep a diary of daily events, you can illustrate this if you wish.

  1. Continuous practice of sums using pencil and paper as appropriate for your child’s class level i.e. addition, subtraction, multiplication and division (please include subtraction and addition with renaming, long multiplication and long division as appropriate.)
  2. Tables Practice: Oral drills on all tables covered to date, the Hit The Button game accessed on topmarks.co.uk is extremely helpful.

Maths practice as above must be practiced daily so that progress made to date will be maintained.
