January 2020 Newsletter

As we move from winter to spring 2020, we hope that the February days ahead bring good weather, growth and renewed energy for all.

January was an interesting month in St Anne’s

Garden: As mentioned previously, lots of work has been going on in the garden around the school. Thanks to all parents who have helped out in this. It will be lovely to see the fruits of the work in spring and summer and I know there are plans in place for other work to be done

Library: Thanks to all our volunteers who support the work of the library on an on-going basis. It really makes a difference to the running of the book loans and returns. Our in-school librarians make a great difference too so thanks to all the students who help out with this.

Don’t forget to follow the library news on the website. I look forward to seeing the results of the survey which all students were invited to contribute to (see link of the website for same).

The school Book Fair will run in March (18th-20th) -more to follow on this.

SPORT & WELLBEING:

  • GAA Coaching: We welcome Katie and Cashel, our GAA coaches, to the school. They are working with different class levels for a block of time over the coming months. Thanks to Ardclough GAA Club for arranging and supporting this initiative.

  • Athletics: Ms Owens will continue with athletics training on Friday mornings from next Friday, Feb 7th. Anyone new members can contact Ms Owens re joining

  • Wellbeing and Activity: over the coming weeks and months, classes will be undertaking some challenges, including the ‘Run Around Europe’ and ‘Climb the Heights’ challenges. Children will be undertaking daily physical activities, all of which will be counted as part of the challenge.

Watch out for which class will reach their destination first!

Parent Teacher Meetings- PTMs for parents of children in infant classes are taking place next week

For all parents, a reminder that if you wish to discuss any issue regarding your child, please contact the office to arrange an appointment so that adequate time can be given to the discussion.

Catholic Schools Week: The theme for this year’s week is ‘Living in Harmony with God’s Creation’.

We were delighted to see so many grandparents visiting the school on various days this week. Thank you for taking the time and for your contributions to the class discussions. A number of classes also took on projects with grandparents- well done to you all.

In-service time:

As you are aware, there is a new Primary Languages Curriculum being implemented in schools. The Department of Education has contacted schools indicating that they are to take two half-day closures to facilitate in-service for sameThere will be dates, one this term and one in term 3. We will inform parents of these half days as soon as possible.

All information about developments in the Primary School Curriculum can be found on the NCCA website

School Website: The website has been re-organised and we encourage you to keep accessing it to get further information on school events and class activities
