Internet safety

Thanks to all parents who attended the talk on Internet Safety last night. It was insightful and gave much food for thought in terms of practices around children’s use of the internet.

The importance of communication between adults and children around their access to sites, games and phones/I-pads etc was highlighted. Encouraging children to report to us all about things on the different media that they are concerned about is central to this (A ‘Tell-No-Blame’ approach is effective here!).

As adults we need to be aware of the content of sites, games etc and the potential for children to communicate with strangers through these channels.

The talks was given by a company called Zeeko. Please see their Guidelines (Zeeko Internet Safety Guide to download HERE) which provides further information. You may also wish to consider looking at a site (www.commonsensemedia.org ) which offers advice around content of various games, videos etc for children.

At St Anne’s, children’s safety is paramount. Please make contact with the school should you have any concerns on internet safety.
