Mid Term

Dear parents and students,

A note to remind all that the school is closed tomorrow and Friday, February 15th and 16th, for mid-term break.

This month we are celebrating Creative February in classes, with lots of creative activities being done and great adventures in making and doing. We hope to celebrate with a school event at the end of the month.

Thanks to all the grandparents who came to visit us on Grandparents Day in January. It was a joy to meet so many grandparents, to hear stories of their lives and of their grandchildren. I’m sure they all enjoyed seeing the children in class and joining in the activities on the day. A special thanks for Fr Joe and 6th class for the prayer service and to the PSG volunteers who provided the wonderful spread of food and drinks.

Congratulations to our girls Badminton Team who were successful in the  Schools Leinster Badminton blitz earlier this month. We are very proud of you and wish you success as you enter the All Ireland championships soon. Thanks to Mrs Knightly for organising and training the team.

We were delighted that our Quiz team did so well recently in the Kildare Credit Union Quiz….well done everyone and thanks to Mrs Cassells for organising this.

Well done to students who are leading out on setting up clubs within the school, from chess to art events and talent shows. It is wonderful to see the participation in these events and also to see the leadership qualities of the organisers coming to the fore.

We are getting started on Paired Reading in senior infants next week and also on a project with 2nd classes on speaking Irish. Thanks to all the parents who are involved in these projects- you make a difference! Swimming, gymnastics, GAA, violin and inputs from Music Generation, all continue in school so it is busy for all!

Internet Safety Day was earlier this month too. The value of the internet for children was highlighted and also the need to be aware of keeping safe while using the internet. Resources on Webwise are useful for parents who may have concerns in this regard. Students in 5th and 6th had inputs on safety from Zeeko (resources on their website also) . Our Acceptable Use Policy is on the internet and I will remind all of the school rule that children should not have mobile phones on the school premises (anyone who needs to have one, or mistakenly brings one to school, should give it to teacher at the start of the day; it will be returned at the end of the school day). Thanks for your co-operation with this.

I wish you all a lovely mid-term and I look forward to seeing you on Monday and to some exciting days ahead up to Easter.

REgards,

Ms Manley
